We do use Meraki for some MDM (and it does do device tracking, but not as good as the find my icloud) but it also enables backup encryption by default without indicating the password, which causes headaches when attempting to replace a device (can't backup and restore). I realise there is a VPP solution (although not sure this will help much other than for sharing purchases, which isn't really an issue for us) How are others dealing with a large fleet and iCloud? I can't seem to find an Enterprise type parent account option for iCloud, that would be ideal in this circumstance.

Enterprise cloud backup password#
I was considering setting up an icloud account for each of the users and tying this to their corporate email account to allow us to reset the password if needed and un-enrol the devices when a staff member leaves. But its still a stop-gap and doesnt prevent the other issues we've seen with multi users having the same icloud account logged in. We've tride using the Apple Configurator to remove some of the applications/options from the device (iMessage, Facetime for instance). It is also a pain when iOS is updated as it requires the password to be re-entered and even now it's turned on two factor auth (we've since turned this off). Our previous solution involved a shared iCloud account between multiple devices (IT don't supply the password to users) and turning off all other options except for Find My iPhone, however we continue to have issues with users re-enabling iMessage, Facetime and other services that results in shared data synching between them (missed calls, SMS, contacts etc). Our number one requirement for iCloud on the devices was to be able to use Find My iPhone to locate a device if lost and also to prevent a device being re-used if stolen.

Just curious as to how other IT departments are dealing with a fleet of iPhones and iPads with regards to iCloud accounts.
